Maintenance Department Trainee / Assistant

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A.       KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Safety conscious
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical, electrical and electronic prints preferred.
  • Familiar with manufacturing equipment and its functions.
  • Ability to work with hazardous materials and conditions safely.
  • Ability to understand and troubleshoot electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems preferred.
  • Ability to safely operate all related tool making machinery preferred. (Bridgeport, Lathe, Drill Press, Welder, and accessories).
  • Basic working knowledge of Power Hand tools.
  • Familiar with National Electrical Codes preferred.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highschool level math skills.

B.       EDUCATION AND TRAINING

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid/current Michigan Drivers license.
  • Maintenance skills test required (provided at interview)
  • Knowledge of Whitlam Recycling program (in-house training).

 JOB DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for efficiently installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing manufacturing equipment, routine building and non-manufacturing equipment maintenance and/or repair (including occasional snow removal, salting of walkways, and perform misc. errands). To manufacture parts and/or assemblies from drawing or concept for production or building maintenance, with a high regard for quality. Perform all duties and functional responsibilities.

A.       DUTIES AND FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain, repair, build and upgrade manufacturing and non-manufacturing equipment as instructed.
  • Maintain and repair electrical and mechanical systems for the building as instructed.
  • Maintain and repair warehouse equipment such as: Pallet jacks, carts, etc. as instructed.
  • Maintain, repair and upgrade electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment as instructed.
  • Responsible for miscellaneous errands as required, including driving of company van.
  • Complete and maintain all required paperwork accurately and efficiently.
  • Handle materials, tools and equipment with proper care and respect.
  • Ensure all lighting elements, waste oils, solvents and other chemicals used in the maintenance process are properly stored and disposed of, according to environmental and safety regulations.
  • Comply with all pertinent departmental and company policies, procedures and instructions.
  • Perform backup duties to Pressroom / Building Maintenance staff in their absence.
  • Perform any other duties as required.
